Egg Donation FAQs

  • During the egg retrieval procedure, you’ll be under sedation and shouldn’t feel any pain. You might experience mild cramping or light spotting afterward, but these effects are temporary and resolve quickly.

While the at-home hormone injections might be uncomfortable, a nurse will guide you on how to safely self-administer them, and the needle is very small—most donors report little to no discomfort.

  • Healthy, fertile women in their 20s to early 30s have hundreds of thousands of viable eggs. The average number retrieved in a single donation ranges from 20 to 30 eggs. Therefore, donating eggs should not affect your fertility at all.
  • You will be required to administer at-home hormone injections for about 10 days leading up to the egg retrieval. You can either give them to yourself or have a trusted friend, family member, or partner help you.
  • You will receive an initial $500 after the medical screening part of the process. You will receive the remaining $8,500 (or more if you are a returning donor) after your eggs are retrieved.
  • In some cases, we can match donors with a local recipient parent, but that can limit how quickly you will be matched. Generally speaking, however, donors should have the ability and flexibility to travel. If travel is required, your travel costs will be covered.
  • The recipient parents are responsible for medical bills, travel bills, and other expenses related to the donation.

When you become an egg donor with Everie, you can trust that our team of professionals will be there for you every step of the way. To earn your trust, we ensure you understand how the process works and what you can expect.

2. Meet our team through the screening process and learn about the different types of egg donation available

3. Choose between a fresh or frozen egg donation cycle

4. Request an egg donation type: open ID, semi-open ID, and/or ID release

5. Follow protocol for donation cycle and retrieval

6. Receive compensation

7. Feel amazing about your choice to help grow a family

Timeline for Egg Donation

In general, the egg donation process takes 3 months for frozen donations and 4 to 6 months for fresh. The timeline for fresh donations, however, can vary based on (but not limited to) how long it takes to complete a Mutual Match™ with recipient parents, your availability, and clinic availability.

For both donation types, you will first go through the application and pre-screening process, which takes about 4 to 6 weeks.

If you decide to proceed with a fresh donation, you will begin the Mutual Match process once your profile has been selected. The duration of this process will vary on a case-by-case basis.

After matching with recipient parents, you will undergo medical screenings and organize all the legal contracts. This part will take about 2 to 3 months.

Once that is handled, you will begin the at-home injections and prep for egg retrieval. This part of the process lasts about two weeks. You will receive your egg donor compensation after the retrieval is complete.

Last but not least, you will recover, which generally takes a few days to a week.

Frozen egg donation matching

If you choose to proceed with a frozen egg donation, you can expect much of the same timeline. Rather than waiting for a Mutual Match™ before completing your donation, you will proceed with your donation and receive your compensation. You will then wait to hear from us when recipient parents are interested in matching with you and utilizing your eggs.

Benefits of being an egg donor

Donating with Everie offers meaningful benefits, including the chance to profoundly impact someone's life by helping them build a family. You'll have complete control over your choices—where your eggs go, the type of donation you prefer, and your disclosure preferences. You'll also receive compensation, which many donors use to travel, invest in education, or pursue personal goals.

Mutual Match.png

At Everie, our Mutual Match™ program ensures that donors and recipient parents both have a voice in choosing their match. By involving both sides in the decision, we aim to foster meaningful, lasting connections as they begin this journey together.

Our unique approach to matching follows a formula designed for everyone's best interests.

As a donor, you'll start by applying for either a fresh or a frozen donation retrieval. You'll also choose the type(s) of donation you're open to: open ID, semi-open ID, and/or ID release.

Once recipient parents register with Everie, they will receive access to an entire database of egg donors. They will refine a list of potential donors depending on their ideal donation cycle—fresh or frozen—and based on their preferred level of identity disclosure from their donor. Our recipient parents will then share as much information about themselves as they'd like on their profile, and we encourage them to share anything that clearly paints a picture of who they are as people and what they will be like as future parents.

After recipient parents choose their ideal donor, Everie will contact and inform you (the donor), "These/This recipient parent(s) would like to match with you (if it's a fresh cycle) or use a cohort of your eggs (if they're frozen), and these are the parameters they'd like it to be done under (this would be the donation type).”

You’ll have three days to let us know if you’d like to match with the intended parents or decline.

For frozen donations, we ask donors in advance: “If someone wants to use your eggs, how should we proceed?” If we don’t hear back within three days of a match request, we’ll move forward based on the donor’s preselected ID Release preference. This advance decision allows us to match frozen eggs without needing consent at the time of each individual request.

You can learn even more about how Mutual Match™ works. It's the first program of its kind.

Fresh vs. Frozen Egg Donation

One of the main distinctions between fresh and frozen egg donation is the order of events within the process, affecting when you undergo the retrieval itself and receive your egg donation compensation.

Fresh Egg Donation

You will first match with recipient parents, then undergo the egg retrieval procedure. This option helps one family.

Frozen Egg Donation

You complete the egg retrieval process before matching with the recipient parents. This option can potentially help multiple families from a single retrieval.

Regardless of your chosen donation type, you will receive compensation once the egg retrieval is complete. You will always have the opportunity to choose who gets to use your eggs, so this all depends on you.

Understanding Donor Arrangement Types

At Everie, we have three donor arrangement types: open ID, semi-open ID, and ID release. No matter what level of disclosure you choose, you are guaranteed to be part of a warm, supportive community of professionals who value you, your health, and your choice.

The most open disclosure, open ID egg donation, means you and the recipient parents are open to sharing your full identities and contact information with one another and/or the donor-conceived child at some point. As part of this process, donors and recipient parents may have a video call or in-person meeting to help build comfort, trust, and clarity for everyone involved.

Open ID

Where we stand out from typical agencies is in our encouragement of disclosed donations and mutual matching. At Everie, we allow our donors and recipient parents to choose from four different types of egg donations: Known, Semi-Known, ID Release, and De-Identified. While we will always advocate for our donors to express themselves and their comfortability by choosing the type of donation they feel best suits them and their needs, we caution those who want to choose De-Identified Donations with the expectation of never being located. In today’s world, we just cannot guarantee anonymity. In fact, anonymity, as it once was, no longer exists. Because of online DNA databases – such as 23 and Me – and the vast interconnectedness proffered by social media, donors can no longer remain anonymous. We’d like you to know that you have options beyond an anonymous donation, and we’ll support you in your discovery and choice, no matter what you select.

A semi-open ID donation means you are willing to meet the recipient parents but may not initially share your contact information. This option allows you to maintain some privacy while getting to know them, but it doesn't mean an exchange of information is permanently off the table.

Semi-Open ID

2/3

Something you may not have yet considered when deciding whether or not to become an egg donor, is that there will be a child(ren) in the world who shares your DNA, who potentially looks like you or sounds like you, and might even have some of your personality traits. Our donors are remarkable women, who recognize their ability to powerfully impact other people’s lives and change them for the better. They also understand that their part in this journey is not a one-time transaction but a life-long connection. Our donors understand that the donor-conceived children may become curious about their origins and have a right to know from where and who they come, fostering a strong sense of identity, and providing access to genetic information and biological medical history.

ID release donation means you decide not to meet the recipient parents or have any contact information shared with them. Your identifying information will, however, be released if a donor-conceived child of legal age requests details about who you are.

ID Release

3/3

This is how Everie is different from every other egg program. Our process of mutual matching allows our donors to choose the recipient parents of their egg donation. It is important to us that our donors have a say in the process. We want them to be in control of their own narrative. Recipient parents select the donor(s) from the database that best match their preferences. We will then reach out to the donor selected and inform them that the recipient parents are interested in using their eggs. Mutual matching ensures you get to make the final decision. Your eggs will only be used if you agree to have them go to the interested recipient parents. We will be your sounding board, your confidant, and your greatest advocate. Donors’ voices deserve to be heard, and we, at Everie, will make sure of that. While there are other egg donor agencies out there, the Everie difference is that we believe in the power of your voice. In addition to being compensated monetarily for your contribution, we want our donors to feel emotionally appreciated and valued as well. Without women like you, so many others would miss out on the opportunity to grow their families.

Why Disclosed Donation?

We believe disclosed donations offer the best outcomes for all involved. More donors are asking about the long-term impact of donation, and parents often face tough questions from curious children. We advocate for disclosed donations to support donor-conceived individuals in learning about their origins, connecting with donor siblings if they choose to in the future, and possibly even meeting their donor.

You can choose one or multiple ID options. If parents change their minds later, we can revisit disclosure. We're here to support you throughout the entire journey—even after the donor-conceived child's birth.

What Is Egg Donation?

Egg donation is an assisted reproductive technique where a woman's eggs are retrieved in a minor procedure and used to help others become parents.

Our donors are healthy young women who meet physical, health, and educational criteria. You choose your preferred level of disclosed information through open ID, semi-open ID, or ID release. Donations may be fresh or frozen for later use. Although donors provide the genetic material, they have no parental rights or responsibilities. Egg donors play a key role in the lives of donor-conceived children by helping create their origin stories through a significant and purposeful act.
